Terranova: nematicidal action on beet and potato crops
-
The beet cyst nematode (Heterodera schachtii) is a small, whitish worm that lives in the soil and attaches itself to beet roots to feed. Although it measures less than 1 mm in length, it is a feared pest that can cause significant yield losses as well as an increase in soil content.
In potatoes, control efforts focus on the nematodes M. chitwoodi and M. fallax.
To tackle this pest preventatively, it is advisable to sow a catch crop of fodder radish, which is known for its nematicidal action down to a depth of 90 cm. Among the various varieties of fodder radish, Terranova offers one of the highest levels of resistance to nematodes. The Terranova variety is also resistant to clubroot and Aphanomyces, two other soil-borne fungi.
Find the Terranova variety in the Chlorofiltre Crucial mix or in the Chlorofiltre Jet SAS FLY catch crop for your broadcast sowing before harvest.
