Messager, an innovative biocontrol product for mildew and grapevine powdery mildew
Cérience sells a Natural Defence Stimulator (NDT), the Messager, based on COS-OGA. It iss produced from 2 raw materials of natural origin, the chitosan from the exoskeleton of crustaceans for the COS and the pectin from citrus and apple skin to make the OGA. This production is 100% European!
The mode of action of the Messager is also innovative, the COS-OGA triggers a dual signal at the plant level. The first one imitates the presence of a mushroom and the second one imitates the damages of the mushroom in the plant. Thus, thanks to a preventive use of the Messager, the plant’s defensive system is ready to limit the development of the disease. It is efficient for the mildew and the powdery mildew when used before and after blooming.
Messager, an efficient and alternative treatment
The Messager allows to secure the treatments for the grape growers. In the synthesis of our trials over the past 7 years, we observe that the Messager can reduce the variations in programme efficiency compared to modulated or full dose programmes and secure the effectiveness of associated treatments. The Messager reduces the intensity of the mildew under high pressure conditions and allows a reduction of the IFT (indicator of frequency of treatment) down to 40%. Similar results are observed in organic farming programmes; with copper, an increase by more than 12% of the efficiency on the grape clusters is observed (pluri-annual Cérience synthesis).
Grape growers: positive feedback from the field
Every year, Cérience gets some feedback from the grape growers who use the Messager and more than 70% of it is positive. Among the main reasons to use Messager, 3 are dominating:
Reducing the IFT for 36% of the grape growers
Increasing the efficiency and securing the treatments for 12% of the grape growers
Implementing more ecological practices for 9% of the grape growers
